Read's Ride for Rising Star

Many people share their time and talents to help Rising Star Outreach be effective in the work of assisting those with leprosy. Keith Read organizes an annual bike ride, Read's Ride for Rising Star Outreach, and reaches out to friends and family to make this a meaningful event. This year it was a smashing success! On behalf of Rising Star Outreach, I thank him for his enthusiasm and passion year after year to raise awareness and money for Rising Star Outreach. Keep those bike wheels turning!

Shawn Bradley Golf Tournament

Each year Shawn Bradley shares his passion for Rising Star by hosting a golf tournament. In September the 5th Annual Shawn Bradley Golf Charity Invitational was held at the beautiful Red Ledges Golf Course in Heber City, Utah. Unusual rainy weather had been forecast, but on the day of the tournament the skies were blue and the vibrant autumn colors provided a spectacular backdrop for the many participants and guests that supported the event. When people think of Shawn Bradley they may think of his height or his successful basketball career, but I think of his incredible giving heart and the hope he offers to those affected by leprosy by providing the means for medical care, micro-grants, and the opportunity of receiving an education.

We were also honored to have Mehmet Okur, Randy Rigby, and Chad Lewis spend the day supporting Shawn and Rising Star Outreach. A special thank you to them for their part in the success of this day. In my book, they each hit a hole-in-one for Rising Star Outreach!

Thank you to all our sponsors and volunteers and participants of the day!  You have made this year another year of success!

Education with Rising Star

Recently Ms. Nathiya (Standard IX teacher) and Mr. Dhanasekaran (Standard X teacher) recognized two outstanding students for their moral leadership and school work.

Support past volunteers Steve and Jessica Hart who are putting on their 2nd Annual 5K Invasion Run here in Provo, UT on Septeber 5th, 2014.

My name is Steve Hart. In 2011 my wife (Jessica) and I had the life changing opportunity to spend a summer in Chennai with Rising Star Outreach.  Our time there and the people we met mean so much to us we want to give back in whatever way we can. We have started a community 5k in Provo Utah called the Invasion Run. It is an alien themed 5k through a corn field. The proceeds from the race will be donated to Rising Star Outreach. We hope you will support us in supporting them as we try and give leprosy a "run" for its money. To learn more visit us at www.invasionrun.com or see our facebook page at www.facebook.com/invasionrun

Registration is still open until September 3rd, 2014. Cost is $30 per runner and you receive a T-Shirt, Race Bib and Packets.  Don't forget to dress up!  This is a fun night for the whole family!

Here are some pictures from last year:

"Starting my fundraising journey I was a little wary that not many people would donate to my fundraising page. I was thinking of the people I personally thought would donate to me, who were mostly relatives. Even then I was worried they would only donate $20-$50, which would not let me hit my fundraising goal. I talked to my Dad about it and he came up with his own list of people who he thought would donate. His list was much bigger than mine, including his clients and personal friends! I thought because the majority of his people didn't know me personally or only knew me as his daughter that they wouldn't donate. But I sent out an email to everyone anyways. I just included my journey, what my objective of going to India is and a link to my donation page. Within hours of sending out the email I was receiving overwhelming support. Also, don’t be afraid to send follow up emails and make phone calls, people get busy and forget they wanted to donate.  The majority of my donations were people from my Dad, that didn't know me personally but wanted to support me and believed that Rising Star Outreach was a worthy cause to donate too.  I would say don’t be afraid to email people and ask for support, reach out to more than just family. You will be surprised how many kind people are out there willing to support your cause and passion to provide meaningful service."

"Kathy Bunker, Owner/Artistic Director of Bunker Dance Center started "Dancers Making a Difference" in 2008. After hearing Becky Douglas speak at BYU's Education Week in 2006, Kathy felt the urge to "do something" for this wonderful organization, Rising Star Outreach! It took a couple years to carve out the time and plan for a dancer's benefit concert but she was determined to help in some way!
What started as a small gathering of three studios in a church has expanded to 8 studios and hundreds of dancers as we prepare for the 6th Annual Dancers Making a Difference!"  -- Bunker Dance Center

Kathy Bunker

April 22nd was a special Tuesday that brought talent from all over the Las Vegas area to one theater to raise aid for those affected with leprosy.  When we were talking with Kathy Bunker she kept saying how special a night like tonight was because these 8 studios are usually competing with each other, but tonight they are united in service and helping others.  This feeling is what Rising Star Outreach loves to promote.  People from all backgrounds, situations, locations all come together to help those that are in need.  Helping people that are often looked over of forgotten.  But we will not for get them, we see them and the beauty and strength that they offer the world.

We would like to thank each of the 8 studios participating this year.  Their performances were amazing and a special thanks to special guest Aaron Turner.
