President's Letter: One child or One pen at a time
Monday, August 05, 2013
Many have responded with positive and supportive comments
regarding our 10th Standard
students scoring in the 90th percentile on the government exams.
This accomplishment reflects the dedication and hard work of the students and
of the teachers, who gave extra time to tutor and prepare the students for the
exams. As we all know, education gives
one options—options that sadly are not available to many children
throughout the world.
Soniya and Mother |
Rising Star recognizes that education is a powerful tool
which should be a privilege for every
child. One of our students, Soniya, recently shared her excitement about
scoring well on an exam: “I was so happy
and my parents were so happy. I know it will help me reach my goal of becoming
a doctor one day!” Soniya now knows
there are amazing possibilities beyond the curse of leprosy. She is an agent of change—maybe
one child or one pen at a time!
Last month the Rising Star blog, launched a new initiative, Agent of Change, which recognizes a
volunteer, partner, or supporter of Rising Star that exemplifies service and
facilitates change. We are surrounded by
examples of those who are making a difference through service, sharing
resources, or advocating for positives change in the world. Check out our blog for new updates!
Join us and be an Agent
of Change on August 20th at out Shawn Bradley Charity Golf Event
and President’s Brunch, “Women to Women.”
A special panel of women will share their life
experiences and the ways they have contributed to help Rising Star fulfill its
mission. Go to our web site: www.rising staroutreach.org and sign up today!

As I look at Soniya and her mother, I see a mother so happy for the opportunity her daughter has. And an excited young woman. Probably relived after studying so hard for those important exams. I can picture Soniya as a doctor. What a blessing she will be to others. I am proud to be associated with this organization even if in a small way of being a sponsor.
