India

Gopi B. (UKG)
During May there is a buzz in the air on the Rising Star campus because our students eagerly anticipate visits with parents, siblings, and other family members during summer break, which begins the end of April and extends into the blistering hot month of May.

Over the past few weeks, the students have taken exams and we are proud of them for excelling in many subjects. The dedication and diligence of our amazing teachers brought to a close another successful year for the Peery Matriculation School. Many thanks to our sponsors who sent encouraging words during this intense study time, which means so much to these young lives!

David and Rachelle Ostler
May is also a time of transitions as we bid farewell to national directors, David and Rachelle Ostler.  (In next month’s Newsletter we will introduce you to new directors, Dale and Lily Simpson.) We extend our warmest appreciation to the Ostler's who are leaving to serve in Sierra Leone. Their leadership and outstanding contributions  have made a major impact in guiding our work and we are forever grateful for their efforts.

Dr. Susan Hilton
Chairman Ron Hanson and his wife, Joyce, have been in India to help with the transition and attended both a board meeting and a school board meeting.  Dr. Susan Hilton has accepted the position of Managing Director and Ms. Padma Venkataraman was given the title, Honorary Chairman and co-founder of Rising Star Outreach. It is a pleasure to recognize these amazing leaders for their expertise and support in helping our work. Dr. Hilton has been instrumental in recruiting several new members for both boards.

Our volunteer program continues changing lives— those who are served and those who serve! I love hearing about the experiences of individuals and families who participate in this incredible program. There is still time to sign up for the summer volunteer program. Visit our website for available sessions.

USA

Two weeks ago, in Las Vegas,  Kathy Bunker, Stacey Tookey, Gene Gabriel, and many incredible directors and dancers supported the Fifth Annual Dancers Making a Difference Event to a full auditorium! By raising funds and awareness, they have made a difference in the lives of many at Rising Star Outreach.  Kudos to everyone for this outstanding event!

How can you have your own ‘Making a Difference’ experience? Sign up for these upcoming events: the Rising Star Ride, Walk, Run, and/or, the Fourth Annual Shawn Bradley Golf Charity Event, volunteer or sponsor a child. Further information on these service opportunities is provided on this blog or on our website.

The following quote by Helen Keller describes my feelings for those of you who help Rising Star everyday in your own way!

“I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.”

Thank you for doing something to support Rising Star!
